I have the opportunity to pickup a 5 speed from a 92 S10. It has 34K on it and was behind a 4cyl. I assume chevy used the same 5 speed for both 4 & 6 Cyl's. Am I right?
Any idea what clutch,etc.. I need to use to mate this up to a 235 or 261 Inline 6?

Try here (http://www.stovebolt.com/techtips/t5tranny.htm) and here (http://www.inliners.org/Jack/t5_page.html) for more info.

The trannys are not the same. The best set up is the 6 cyl. Camaro box with the S-10 tail and shifter.

I'm planning to trade parts I don't need for this transmission. Will this trans work? Is the camaro 6cyl just that much stronger?

The 4 cyl is not a T-5. It is a Mitsubitshi made tranny.

Trades are always good.
My thoughts are to get whatever S10 t-5 you can get cheap. At least you can use it for mock-up and the tailshaft. I would put it in and see haw long it lasts. If it grenades, then you can upgrade to a stronger version, but at that point it should be a bolt in.
That's what I would do, but I am cheap.http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks for the info. Bummer though, I though I'd found a good deal.

I've never heard of the Mitsubishi 5-speed for the 4-cyl. See what kind of #'s you can get off of that trans, and post them here. Also, see if you can compare a V6 S-10 trans to the 4-cyl version side by side.
My '39 Chevy has an '86 Z-28 V8 5-speed w/ the tailshaft and rear housing from an S-10 5-speed. This moves the shifter forward, to clear the bench seat.

Is the bellhousing integral to the trans? If so it is the ricer trans....I know the eighties s-10 with the small 4-banger had these trans...
Brian
geez, what 52 said integral bellhousing and its junk, if its "normal" its a non-world class t-5, a weak one, the 4 banger one was different, but no reason you can't use it. i think the biggest thing besides strength, is the splines on the input shaft of the weaker ones limits your clutch choices. i'd run it till you broke it.
i just hauled home a 4cyl t-5 from the local flat rate junkyard, somebody had pulled it all the way out except the speedo hookup, and decided they didnt want it, i ran it thru the gears and seemed good. i'm gonna stab it behind my 383 and see how long till it breaks.

I won't be in touch with him until monday, I'll definately find out if its got the intigral bellhousing and try to get some numbers off of it before I make any decisions.
Kustm52, do you know of any 5speeds in your area for a good price? I thought I'd ask since I'll probably be down your way next week. I'll know early next week what are exact plans are for the trip. I'm looking forward to checking out Rocco and Cheaters, I hope its open when I'm there.

Micky I'll look in the yards here for you. They go for about $20. Shipping might be a bitch though.

Hi,
would be great if you can find something. $20 sounds good.
Shipping isn't too bad as it's aluminium and US Parcel ís
not too expensive.
Thanks
Michael
