Just doin the introduction for all of those on here I don't know, and hello to all those I do. Have been a "reader" for a while and thought I'd join the activities finally.

Names Justin (just like it says), and I'm working on a 54 chopped 2dr(from 4dr) Plymouth. Had original drivetrain that took a crap so I'm doin the complete drivetrain/chassis swap (stock frame is bent) to get her movin again in a straight line with a little pep.

Cheers http://photo.starblvd.net/Justin415/1-1-1.jpg

There is no front yet, it was runnin banged up pounded out stock hood an fender no grill or bumper fer the longest time. Car was hit pretty hard fore I got it and I have not been able to take time an source out a hood and fenders fer it with the chassis swap goin on. I want to go with 52 Plymouth or 52-54 Dodge Coronet hood and fenders for a smoother look with rounded mouth and floating bar. Simple and uncluttered. Heres an old front shot

Welcome, Justin! I like yer choice of ride. Have you thought of trying a '54 Olds front bumper/grille? Thought that would be oval and simple for ya. Whatcha do for a living, how long've you been into cars?
One of the neatest things about this cyber garage is the varied background of people. What's yours? Lookin' forward to seeing your progress with the Plym.

Welcome. That's one of the coolest 54 Plymouth's I've ever seen. Love the chop on that... What motor and chassis are you in the process of swapping?

Well, if you've been lurking ("reading") for a while, then you'd know most of us like to know who we are talking to...say like, how old are you? What do you do for a living...or are you still in school? What's your experience building cars (if any)? and what brought you to the HAMB? Nothing spectacular...just more info...ya already got bonus points for putting up a pic of your car...now just add to it...

Yeah I have 49 Ply. bumper F+R for it already with some bullet bumperettes i'll fab to fit on the front to close up some of the space between the floater bar and vallence. Right now I'm working for a tattoo and piercing supply wholesaler. Dream job is to work in fabrication, mixed media, not just metal. I have always been into cars and anything else with wheels, wires, gear, nuts, bolts, you know, the interesting stuff, LOL. Grew up in the sticks of Maine as poor trailerpark trash, so wrenching was innevitable. When other kids were bying Haro's and Redlines, we were goin to the dump to find parts to build our own. Later it was goin to the woods to find abbandoned cars to build an drive, no use fer dreams of rods then, if ya could get sumpthin runnin it was golden even if the badge said Monza! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif Traveled the US fer a long time never setlin down till finally 5 yrs ago decided to make a life an have been eakin one out here in SF ever since. Got lots of friends I'd give my last dollar too and have dreams of working that ultimate job doin what we love, an cruisin in the car that many days of frustration built. Thanks fer helpin me get the ball rollin, I'm a little socailly innept at first, without a directive.

PS thanks Stude, thats all I need is a little cajolling http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif. Oh yeah I'm 31.

From one mopar owner to another, welcome to the HAMB. If you need some advice on motor/tranny swaps, let me know. I've researched the subject and know lots of places to find swap parts.

Well thanks and thanks again, I'm not much of a personal info guy, I'm not tryin ta be rude or standoffish, ya'll just hafta let time do its work.

Wafarer, that just happens to be my favorite 50's Mopar model. The mini sled!

I wanted to go with a Diplomat chassis/drivetrain but the price vs condition around here is silly. Have a 79 Versailles 302 4 wheel disc ford 9" that I got for a good price I might use. Contemplating the strut tower dilema is the only thing disuading me, though I know it will fit under the stock fenders, just wether or not I want to or not.

Guess I'm out of touch.
I grew up on Potrero Hill (probably spelled that wrong). Only decent weather in the city. That was a couple of lifetimes ago. They were still building BART, and you could ride the city bus all day for 15 cents or 30 cents if you didn't switch directions right.
I was at Grace Slick's birthday party in the Park in '65. And yea I ate the watermelon for those who remember.
Well welcome anyway.

That's better Justin...now I know more about you and what you are about..I'm not much into MoPars but will help when I can...the coop of yours is starting to come around...not many people do a '53/'54 body...

FWIW, welcome to The House of HAMB...

Stude, No harm no foul, I'm prety thickskinned.

P-N-B they are talkin about cutting 15 bus lines and they have raised the fare to $1.50 (w/ a transfer that gets you 2hrs any direction on the bus) as of 2004. Right now a 3rd St. light rail is being built to go from the Richmond to downtown. I go by Potrero hill (16th Potrero)everyday on my way to work @ 3rd and 22nd. Potrero hill is where I wanted to get a place but settled in the avenues 14th and Geary, it's quiet and nice. Was livin in the Filmore/lower haight (ZOO!), and spent a few years living in the TL (another ZOO).

Now i here you lost that car due to rent fee`s in the storage yard where you be keepin it some golden boy from CO.CO. county laid claim to it due to the huge transmission fluid mess some lame left in his driveway

Welcome, nice lookin chop! I'd look for a body over frame car for your swap. Grafting a unibody platform under your car would be very difficult. I really can't see any avantage to it.

Slazzen, I totally screwed up on that. I was plannin on backin the car up and hittin my mess with the hose and as soon as I got in the car dreams of sugerplums and my homestead gave me random memory loss. Can't come visit this weekend, gotta do time with the lady. Next weekend I'll bye ya dinner, BBQ style. Hey FarmerJohn ya gonna be there weekend after the swap? Dinner on me! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

PS found someone ta smog the 79 on the DL, so it'll be the daily fer a while till I find a good donor I can afford for the 54 Plydo.

If you don't mind using the stock suspension set up, you can buy caliper brackets to put disc brakes on the stock spindles from PlyDo. They also sell a kit to use a cavalier R&P on these cars. And, just for reference, a '57 ford 9" bolted right in to the stock springs on the wayfarer.

Justin415
02-26-2004, 02:51 PM
I would use the stock suspension and that little disc swap trick but the chassis is bent on the driver side at the firewall. And I'm sure in other spots not visible to the eye. It's just a waiting game right now fer an affordable donor that wont cost more than the car LOL.

Before we put the fatman clip on the wayfarer, we were going to do a chassis swap onto a '73 chevelle wagon frame. It has the right wheelbase and track width. Might be something to look into.

Welcome Justin. I like Justin, he's a good guy, a little quiet but he's hell on a Vespa.
Good kid, this here Justin, even though he's not much for words.
When he visited Orlando last year he spoke four sentences, one after the other, and we told him "Shut the fuck up, you're giving us a headache."

Hey Justin, put a Chevy in that Plymouth, Mopars suck.

Nadelicious, my brother. Believe it ir not these strangers got actual personal info and PARAGRAPHS out of me. I guess when I'm confident they dont have to look at the frog, I can talk. Hope you been keepin that vespa fresh and fed in the coral fer next years Gala, I want to get some wheelies and smoke out of it. Mebe I can pay one o those toothless crackwhores ta put on some skates and I'll pull her behind me down main st.

Wayfarer, yer wheelbase is shorter than all other Mopar models 48-52. I'm at 114", But I'm not apposed to the chevelle, but when was the last time ya saw one that was a runner fer $500 or under. The options are out there but so far, so are the prices.

Saw A nice convertable (Merc?) Gene Winfield did with a Chevelle undercaraige when the chassis was only 4 yrs old. I know I have that rag around somewhere????

wayfarer
02-26-2004, 04:16 PM
the one we bought that we ended up not using was about $500.00. Those '73-77 chevelles are cheap. It had a small block and a 10 bolt posi in it too.

Justin415
02-26-2004, 04:29 PM
Everything here in the bay area is jacked fer prices. Shoot fer $500 I'll drive back from WA to here and love every vacation havin minute of it. What is the wheelbase and track on yer Wayfarer anyway. I know they are the compact of Dodge sleds, thats why I like em. I'm 54" x 114" but I can get away with a little more track with backspacing and radiused wheelwells.

wayfarer
02-26-2004, 04:43 PM
I'd have to measure the wheelbase and track width, but according to the owners manual, the wheelbase is 123.5". Here's the page in the manual: http://www.fridrichdesign.com/dodge/dodge.html

Justin415
02-26-2004, 05:22 PM
I must be delerious, I thought I read somewhere the Wayfarer was touted as a copact Dodge with a shorter wheelbase but it seems it was the body only they shortened. Thanks, I'm dragging that Custom Car issue off the shelf when I get get home and writing them about their typo they did 40 yrs ago LOL!

If you only need to replace the front frame rails, have you thought about an s10 front clip? There's a guy in Seattle who has a '50 coronet that he put an S10 clip on. I guess they fit right inside the stock dodge rails and you just weld them together.
