Don't think they're super rare or anything - but my favorite right now is a set of finless Weiand heads for my flatty. Mildly polished and dressed up with TUCK's nuts they are going to look superbe.

Oh...I'm gonna catch some flack for this one...
A brushed billet aluminum timing chain cover and pulleys by Little John. I know, I know... When I got my first job in a hot rod shop the owner had it hangin' on the office wall and it was the coolest wall art I'd seen. So, when he closed his shop I made a play for it. It will never see use on a car, but it's nice to look at hangin' above the work bench in the upholstery shop. Did I mention it's also displayed beside my collection of gold chains? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I don't really own them but... The last half of a bridge.
When I'm crossing a bridge, the car goes faster the last 50% of the crossing.

A tiny little Eelco cast aluminum Stromberg jet rack, with a Plomb jet wrench hanging from it. Wish I knew its history...
I really like my headlight collection. I'v got a perfect pair of E&Js with aiming insrtuctions and all. There's also a couple sets of guides and 2 pair of La France headlights.
The first pair I got off of EBay fairly cheap and the second pair I got at York this year. ScaryLarry and I were strolling through the swapmeet and I spotted a box with headlights in it. The guy at the stand said they were is buddies and he would be back shortly. Not wanting to wait I asked what he looked like and found him wandering through the swapmeet. The guy wanted $200 for them but I jewed him down to $175. The kicker was I didn't have the money, so I "borrowed" the money from Larry. Pissed him off that I found them then really got him fired up cause he had to pay for them. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif I was gonna put them on Ebay cause I was broke and they're going for about $2,000. After cleaning them up I just couldn't convince myself to sell them.

I just picked up these two cool old ass Mallory distributors for 4 banger engines. The one on the right is probably from the 30s and is a dual point.
Anyone know where I can get a rotor for the dual point one on the right?
http://members.aol.com/mraybeth/mallory1.jpg
I've also got a Zepher intake for a 4 banger like the one pictured below but mine has the linkage, no bolt through the zepher logo and 2 94's sitting on it.

my hilborn.
I'd have to say at the moment these are my favorite. These are an original pair of 16x13 Magnesium "Big Window" Halibrands that were once ran by Mike Kuhl of Kuhl Blowers and the Kuhl & Olsen dragster fame.
I'm still trying to determine which car they were ran on, but I haven't made a positive ID yet. I originally thought that they came off of the Kuhl & Olsen dragster that was bought from Hanna-Cerny-Kelly in '69, but I've just about decided they were used on an earlier car. This is the same style and size wheel that Garlits was using on his dragster in '64, so that makes me think they were on an earlier car.
A piece of drag racing history nonetheless. I worked the one on the left over a little with some emory cloth in an effort to get them ready for polishing. They were definitely polished at one time and are in great shape. The only thing wrong with them is the very small chip in the lip as seen in the lower left corner of the second picture. I plan to build a car around them, most likely a SBC/ 4spd gasser.

I have 2 Sand cast Weber Carb's That were specially made for a experimental Formula 1 engine. The engine was the Coventry Climax FPE V8, that got killed because Enzo Ferrari tricked them into thinking it was inferior to his.I have got # 11 and 12 so there must have been at least 3 of those engines made. They are not side draft or down draft, but at about a 30Deg. angle. I'll find a way to use them someday....
But maybe they dont count because they are not Hot Rod parts. In that case my favorite would be the mcCulloch VS57 on my Roadster.

Mine is mainly circle-track sprint car stuff. I have many vintage Halibrand parts such as lobster brakes, steering gear, etc. I bought the gear for $100 at an Ohio swap meet and I was offered $550 for it a few minutes later. It would bring at least $1500 on eBay today.
Of course all the components on my 40 year old dragster are somewhat rare.... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I have an old Edelbrock C-3B dual plane intake, had it on most of the cars I've owned. Bought it in Burlington, Vt. in 1966 at the J.C. Penneys Auto store. In that era, most of the Pennys stores, had an automotive department very much like Sears of today. It's hard to fine an old intake that's worth a shit that has an oil filler tube in it, at least for a sbc.

Mine's gotta be my full set of magnisium Halibrand big n littles, like Bass's only unpolished. My uncle bought them used in 59. The front are spindle mount. My second are my 15 x 3.5 slot mags I got from Shirley Muldowney. And my 3rd fav has got to be a Tach from a 65 A.C. Cobra that goes to 9 grand.

This just came in the mail this week, it is a 5 main crank girdle for a Banger, Kong Jackson cast it and did 75% of the machining on it. Now I need to go on a quest for a crank to fit project "Fat Bottom Banger", I will look at a Buda crank at a farm junkyard next week, a Hercules engine crank is also a close fit I have been told.

I've been collecting neat stuff for years. Mostly engine parts for Chevy V8's. I got most of it from people who couldn't pay for all of thier bill when I built them an engine, So I would usually take the leftover parts to settle up. I guess one of my favorites is the '67 427 tri-power intake and carbs. Its scheduled to go on a 427 that will power my '32 5w. I've got a new Doug Nash 5spd. and a new Frankland Quickchange waiting for the same car. After owning the '32 for 25+ years I'm hoping to start on it after I get my wifes '40 coupe done. What do you think, will I live long enough to go through the gears with my foot buried in the throttle? I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Favorite speed part?
I guess this is a mix of old and new... its a Moon tri-power injection setup. Tri power intake manifold w/ throttle bodies that are cast in Stromberg molds, with the injectors hidden inside the float bowls of the "carbs". If ya look close you can tell its EFI, but it looks a lot like tri-power. Also makes WAY more torque then the old 4-barrel did.

Speaking on my dad's behalf, he would say that it would be the set of 9 fin corvette valve covers he has. For me, it would be the original dual quad manifold for a 427 medium riser FE.

I guess I've got two favorites, and they're both exhaust related. My Fenton headers for '49-'53 Oldsmobile engines, and my dual outlet Hollywood Deeptone exhaust manifold for 216-235 Chevy--it's not a converted stock manifold like many vendors sold in the day, it's a complete aftermarket casting, and it's the only one I've seen.

I was given a Mermaid statue about 14 inches in height made of solid stainless. I found out later that the Mermaid was actually the hood or bow ornament for a luxury speed boat made by the Dodge boat company. After doing a little research, I found that Mr. Dodge who founded Dodge cars had two sons, one went into the car business with his dad and the other left to start his own business in making luxury wooden boats. Anyway, the statue is from a 1930 Dodge boat. Oh, by the way, I sold my Mermaid for $1,000.00. I could not keep it in a closet, a boat restorer bought it to place at the bow of his 1930 Dodge boat.

My favorite ( guess because I know the history ) is a Hemi 6x2 intake with 97s, orig lines and fuel block. Ran it in my 27 T at the nite drags at Balboa in Eugene Or. It was also in a 40 Ford Coupe and finished in a friends low buck rail. This was all in the early 60s. Also have the Vertex and the American 5s with slicks ( still hold air ). lol

Have several items, but these FENTON SBC cast iron manifolds have to be near the top of the list. Dual outlets on each side that go into a merge tubing header. Think these were originally intended for those '57 Chev Black Widow cars.
These HEDMAN(?) FE Ford headers are a close second. They have a special cast iron adapter plate that bolts to the engine block. That small tube is for the carb choke.

Moon tank and Eelco hand fuel pump off an old altered roadster a deceased friend owned bick in the 60s. Tank is going on front of my 32. Also a pair of freshly machined Edelbrock heads and a set of Edelbrock pistons fro late Merc flathead that I found in the trunk of old 4dr sedan I bought. Ok guys whats your coolest, rarest, etc, etc piece of speed equipment or hot rod/custom part that you own or have owned? There has to be some great stories involving parts out there. Thanks,Louie
I recently acquired a set of 4, 4 point aircraft safety belts, (the kind used in bombers during WWII) they're gonna look pretty cool in my car once I figure out the attachment points for em. Theyre like 4 inches wide on the lap belt portion, and they have a cool leather tab to cover the pinch points on the buckles. They're neat and best of all they only cost the six pack it took to have the mechanic take em out of his vehicle while I was in the field!

My favorite two wheeled hot rod crap. It's a '29 Indian 45" 101 Scout overhead valve conversion. In 1939 Elmer Turner (see the drilled T in the rocker support plate?) built this. It has 74" Chief valves, large ports, Chief intake, Bonneville cams, Chief carburetor, etc. The oiling system has been modified from total loss to recirculating. Back in the day (he built it in '39) It'd kick any big Harley's butt with no problems.

it really isn't a speed part, but the coolest part is a 6" face 20's Jaeger mechanical tach, it is nickle plated, it is just too cool to explain (double needled, multi reading face), it is also worth more than my T. The history behind it is that it came off of one of Gar Woods water speed record boats.
My favorite speed part is my 1 7/8" Barrel Throat Miller on my T or the Dual 1 1/2" Throat Zenith I came off of a Liberty Engine.

Which one had two sons? John or Horace? There were two Mr. Dodge's that founded Dodge, hence the original name "Dodge Brothers." :-)
I'm not trying to give you hard time, I'm just playin. You need any 60 Buick pieces? I got a complete (almost) and rust-free 60 LeSabre 4dr sedan that needs to either be relieved of a bunch of parts or find a new home. .... but my fav may be the cam
I've put in a 272 Smith cam.
Clay did the grinding and Karl Orr tested the cams in his deuce in the 40's. When they where done after about 25 testruns/cams. The 272 was one of four profiles they kept. A design tried out in the day and still awailable.
Bet the guys could change a cam blindfolded by then.
I love this kind of pioneer history.

I just realized that I actually have some speed equipment that I'm pretty pleased with. First out is my Stromberg 22.2 made in France. It's pretty much a Stromberg 81 and I belive it's from a Ford Vedette. Then there is the waterpump I'll be using om my 4-banger. Its a Opel pump so I guess it's totally wrong to call it speed equipment :o , but it's cool.
Then to be a bit silly (and use even more space on this server) I must add a pic of the things that I'll use when speeding. A bomber cloth helmet to protect my head and a right foot to press the fun pedal. ;)

Mine would be my Harman & Collins magneto for a flathead Ford. Some guy had it at a yard sale for $2.00, I got it half off! Best of all, it works. Next would be my 16"x6" Halibrand magnesium smoothies. Got them from an old racer who used them at Bonneville. They are drilled for Moon discs and even have the original Goodyear tires on them. Last would be my Edelbrock 6x2 SBC manifold. Came complete with carbs and linkage. I'm thinking of selling the wheels and SBC manifold, but you never know.
Jack Henry modified 48 Strombergs. These dual 48's actually outflow 3 97 Strombergs that have chokes.

Had the Hull Bantam for a while, and also hads other projects, so sold it to Red. Came with alot of Hull's midget stuff, and I traded the late Mike Hart for the last of the manifolds that I had, ( a seperate story in itself), I know Ronnie ended up with Mike's stuff, probably that was where at least one of the manifolds went, Out of a total of six. (Have another, unfinished one that is totally different.) Last one I know of changing hands went for around $700, imagine if Harry had gotten the ink he deserved, what it would go for...Red sold the Bantam to a guy who was talking about changing the 12" wheels etc. Hope he didn't wreck it...

Maybe not that vintage but it is an odd piece and it is my favorite! :D I have always loved finned aluminum engine parts and had several Cal Custom oil pans on cars but no one makes one for a BBC or so I thought, then I found this Mercury Marine finned aluminum BBC 502 oil pan, it was black wrinkle powdercoated when I got it but it will soon be polished! And the bonus is it came off a 502 stroker so it is already clearanced for a stroker and every other pan bolt hole is missing for extra rod clearance, and it has several cast in baffles and looks to be a 8 quart capacity. It will look great on the nose high gasser "Wildthing" just above the drilled I beam axle!

I have a Hilborn Flathead injectors #136 which is the the 37th unit sold by hilborn.
Maybe not too rare, but I kinda like the Offy dual carb intake I got for my '56 International...gonna be fun when I've got it converted to 4wd.
Also like the Vertex mag, Hilborn Injectors, NOS Isky 505 Roller Cam and Rockers (matching) I've managed to collect for my 430 MEL :)

NOS 200 MPH 5" SW speedo in my avatar!
I have had it for years.
Got it from a guy who had fifty custom made by SW for use in GT-40 Mk. IV replica's he was going to build.
The SW rep that took the order was reportedly fired over it, not sure why, maybe fifty was too few to make a profit?
Shortly after delivery the kit car company had a fire, too common with fiberglass.
The one I have is supposed to be the ONLY one remaining.
It's still mechanical drive, not electric.
Going into my '59 El Camino, fits the pod perfectly.

Since I am a Pontiac nut it would have to be for Pontiac; and since I am also a carburetion person, it would have to be a carburetor.
With that said, the selection is easy..... the 1963 SD "factory" three-barrel. I enjoy it because of its history; a factory attempt to if not break the rules, at least push the envelope.
For those who are unaware, NASCAR had banned multiple carburetion, so the Pontiac engineers went to Carter, who came up with the now infamous "trap door" three barrel built on a four barrel (AFB) frame. Carter assigned it a part number, Pontiac assigned it a part number; and NASCAR OKed its use.
Carter tried to flow test it, but their test bench was too small. They ended up flowing the primary side, then the secondary side, and came up with 939 CFM at 1.5 inches Hg, and 1128 CFM at 3 inches Hg.
Since the Carter has significantly more throttle and venturi area than the later Holley 950 CFM, and more than the 1050 CFM; the Carter ratings are probably somewhat low.
I have a letter from Carter stating they produced from 15~20 of these units, Carter number 3636s.
It is pictured in another thread, so I will not repost the picture.

Years ago, I had a M/T-Scott 6-71 Super Slot injector, plus scoop, with matching fuel pump, which at the time, Mel Scott had repaired/rebuilt for me...he even threw in an extra bag of jets to play with, lots of photocopies of his old stuff, and a bunch of correspondence from him as well. Super nice guy,
wish I still had it all, but a death in the family forced the sale of all my hot rod stuff. I only paid $150 for the injector (from Ed Lenarth of 'Holy Toledo' Jeepster F/C fame) I think $100 for the pump, and I remember Mel's service being affordable as well, this was about 1993-4, I think. Man, I wish I could turn back the clock. If you are still out there, Mel, thanks again for your courtesy and generosity. And thanks to Ed too. Just looking at those parts on the kitchen table put a grin on my face for a few years.
If I still had all that kit, it would be on the 65 Galaxie right now.

http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1132/1233308464_7588d9e4cf_z.jpg
My neighbor for 20 years, Ed Pickle, gave it to me right before he passed away. He said he wanted me to have it because I would make sure it got used and would not sell it. He had used it on a hopped up 39 convertible back in the 40's. Ed would always come over and hang out in my garage when I was working on my forty. A Great Guy, I miss him.
The second reason it's my favorite is my good friend Randy was building a period perfect 33 and when he found some early Eddie Meyer heads I knew I needed to permanently loan him the manifold. It looks great in it's new home. (see photo)

I've got a few rare things, but not impossible to find. CJ 429 block, mexican 302 block (some people think they are special) etc... BUT my prized piece of speed equipment is my Sun 506 distributor machine. It has been worth it's weight in gold, all part of "super tuning" our cars, people can't believe the difference of how their cars run once the curve is set properly for the engine, and the carb is dialed in.

This thread is kind of depressing me. I seem to do most of my hot rodding by mixing and matching factory parts. I like my four-speed, but it’s just a GM Muncie. My Corvette valve covers are cool, but again, factory made.
My Offy 3x2 intake has been in my possession for just short of a decade now, but it’s yet to be mounted to anything. I suppose that’s my favorite, as it was the first piece of real speed equipment I purchased for myself.
The Edelbrock Tarantula I bought later on is a favorite, too, as it’s what my dad had on his LT-1.

hi, i found a cool new old stock "holthouse" 6 volt bakelite "beehive" ignition coil with instructions and beat up box. Its cool because it happen to fit perfect on my 51 plymouth coil mount. It looks awesome and despite my worries, it even seems to work well for my power plant. And it was $60....i just fell in love with it. It's a tough choice. I like my big block Chevy Ridge Runner Tunnel Ram and a current project of a Ford Flathead Multi-stack injection EFI setup.
The Ridge Runner is cool because it was a flower pot when I bought it, I'm still shaking the dirt out of it.
The EFI is really cool too. It's a project that I'm working on with Bob Wallace. (smart guy) Expect to see some more soon and maybe it will be your next favorite piece.
