Hello to all! I'm new around here and wanted to introduce myself, and my car.
I have a 1953 Chevrolet Bel Air 2 Door Sedan all shaved, all custom. Let me rephrase, “mild custom” since I haven’t chopped it, sectioned it, or channeled it. I bought it almost all stock and it was in great condition, the standard red/white. That got boring so my wife and I grinded her down to bare metal, leaded in the door handle holes, emblem holes, trim holes, and molded in the grill. All that body work is close to done, for now anyway, and we're focusing on lowering it at the moment. The top end of my motor is perfect, I've done about everything I can do to my 235 head to get as much performance as possible, short of filling in the pockets. The bottom end is getting fixed up next Monday or Tuesday. Yeah, I pulled the head and put it back on the block while in the car, but at the time I didn't have an engine crane. I totally finished off my rings with that new head. Running all MSD Ignition, MSD 6AL, and for those who wondered, MSD says the 8515 Distributor is not for the 235/261, but you can make her take it. The flange doesn't reach in far enough to turn the oil pump but we took it down in a lathe and made a custom bracket just for my 235. You can't get a better distributor for a 235, absolutely awesome. Also Fenton dual exhaust and Fenton dual intake. The paint is a midnight blue with a LOT of electric blue pearl and maybe I can get some photos on here to show you guys.
I’m new to the forum, I’m new to working on cars, I’m new to body work, paint, welding, you name it. I look at myself as just crawling out from under a rock and anxious to learn as much as possible. When they see the work I’ve done to my 53, people ask where I learned how to do all of that. I always answer “I wanted to learn it and what better motivation than necessity?” That’s why I bought that car. I’ve done my first lead work on my 53, my first weld, used a hammer and dolly the first time on that car, shot paint for the first time on my 53. I think I could fill about 30 pages worth of things. I’m not a mechanic and I don’t build hot rods for a living, I just have the passion and starving for more knowledge and experience.
I’m also damn lucky to have a “hot rod family” My wife and two boys, my bestfriend Jami who also has a 53 Bel Air, are all always out in my shop with me willing to get as sore and tired as it takes to get the job done.
I just bought two new(to me) inlines, a 248 and another 235. I’m trying to get a 9 ford pickup off of a guy and I’m sure I’ll need to consult some of you guys here and there.
Awesome forum.
