How much play/slop/travel should be in the driveshaft in a turbo 350 tranny?
I went to put mine in back in the truck yesterday and it has about 1/4 to 3/8" of travel is that enough? It's in a 61 Chevy truck with the trailing arm suspension so maybe thats all it needs.
Thanks

if you're talking fore\aft clearance I use 3/4" as my guide when measuring a driveline.
If you're talking about slop or bushing wear, none is acceptable.

Fore / aft travel is what i am talking about - I know the guy before me had the shaft made since it's an orig powerglide truck. 3/4" sounds like i need to shorten the shaft about 1/2"

I was in a similar situation. I ended up gaining my distance by cutting the yoke. It was much simpler. It was a pretty long yoke though (TH400)

Be careful when using a long yoke. You should have a max of 1 1/2 inch between the back of the tranny and the yoke.
I found out the hard way. Had 4 inches. Vibration started on the highway and it yanked the rear seal and bushing out of the trans.
