I travel to New York frequently. On the morning of 9-11-01, I woke up early to get on the internet to buy one week advanced purchase tickets to NY, when I saw the news; witnessed the second plane live on TV. Many of my friends and coworkers witnesed it from their office windows, including one who was only 4 blocks away. Subsequently I have visited Ground Zero several times. Once, two weeks after 9-11 when it was still hot and the air was still filled with the acrid electrical fire smell.

Here's the deal: the people who did this shit were religious Fascists. Not metaphorical religious fascists, not "Ashcroft is a religious fascist" religious fascists, I mean honest-to-Allah fucking RELIGIOUS FASCISTS. The kind who would whip my daughter for reading and failing to wear a burqaa, send my son off to a madrassa for indoctrination, and stone my gay cousin to death, kill me and you and millions of others for the sin of being American. Not metaphorically, not symbolically, literally.

Frankly, I am sickened when anyone tries to convolute and or dilute the cause of these evil cocksuckers by drawing a moral equivalence between them and domestic political enemies, whether they are left or right. Antiwar demonstrators might be clueless fuckwits, but they are not literally plotting to blow up buses full of children. Jerry Falwell might be a creepy bible thumper, but he is not literally hoping to institute a Baptist Shari'a (look it up).

The truth is that "them" is not an abstract bogeyman. Given the slightest opportunity "them" would literally kill us all - Noam Chomsky, Jerry Falwell, George Bush, Howard Dean - because we are all guilty of the sin of western civilization.

Damn Mike, you got me thinking. I agree "them" do want our blood, even American Muslim blood. I saw a picture of the memorial stone with names on them, in just one small area there were several Muslim names. But the problem is it's hard to point out who exactly "them" are. And what saddens me is that in Afghanistan and Iraq many people were killed that had nothing to do with "them".

And I don't think I have the heart to vist Ground Zero.

What I'd like to see is the absolute sealing of our borders and let these worldwide warring fuckers duke it out. Let not their problems be ours. It's mighty presumptuous of America to think that the American way is THE way for the rest of the world. The fact that I think our system, faults and all, is the best there is doesn't mean it will be accepted by someone who's indoctrination prevails over sanity.
Surely the implementation of heavy duty security comes at a lower cost than fighting wars on several fronts that we can't possibly win.
And in our sealed country we can live in freedom and publish whatever works we want.
