I recently picked up a 65 f-100 and it still has the stock 3-speed tranny in it. Does anyone know whether or not a c-4 will work with the stock drive shaft, or will it have to be shortened?

Is the 3 speed functioning? If so, why would you replace the 3 speed manual tranny (toploader?) with a 3 speed Auto?
The yokes might be different also.

Second gear is shot in the three speed.

The driveshaft will need to be shortened by about an inch and a half. I'm 99% sure the yokes are different, also.

AHHH, Why not try to find another?
I just had to put a new driveshaft in my 55 Ford. The new tranny is a 3spd out of a 67Ranchero. The guy at the drivshaft place gave me 2 different yokes to try, that way, I figured out which one was right and just called them with the new length and which driveshaft and gave them back the 2 yokes when I picked it up.
I guess what I'm saying is, it is most likely one of these two. And they will need to take the Yoke off to shorten it anyway. Be glad they don't have to lengthen it.

I can't remember exactly. But I know the C-4 and FMX autos are the same. But someone told me one of the manual trannies was the same too. It might of been the T-10 four speed. Anyway, I have a yoke for a four speed I can try it on one of my C-4's, FMX's and one the neighbor's three speeds. I'll let you know tomorrow.....
