I didn't want to steal Revhead's post, so here it goes:

Some of us are electrically retarded! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif Could we please get some more Technical Posts regarding electrical wiring or even electrical theory? Some of you guys are really good at the whole electrical thing and we would like you to break it down for us.

I've tried to read books on the subject and have stared glassy eyed at electrical diagrams for hours but haven't really learned a damned thing. I've done some home improvement wiring, but I'm not sure about automotive wiring.

I'm sure someone will suggest taking an electrical class, but that will make me snap. Professor Nicola Tesla will start talking about ohms or jiggawatts and my brain will just check out. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif Can someone please put this stuff in "layman's terms."

Here are a few topics to get things rolling':

1. What is the deal with one wire v.s. two wire? Is there "left over" electricity? If so where does it go? (does it just get dumped into the frame?)

2. Benefits/shortcomings of 12 volt vs 6 volt.

3. How about an explanation of electrical terms and components or where you use them in real life. (resistors, capacitors, servos, etc.)

The one wire I belive was originally designed for marine use, so it would be self energizing.

To be honest I didn't have my hopes up that they would be explaining things on a level could be easily understood, but I was pleasantly surprised. They have nice animations too.

this is my bible,

I had this given to me about thirty years ago, it was written in the fifties as a text book,

with chapters on specific areas and questions at the end of each chapter.

it talks theory first then practical use, including extensive diagnosis and repair.

I would recomend it for anyone with an old car, beginer or old hand.
