Trying to spread out the out of pocket expense on my build, I had my transmission rebuilt about 15 months ago. I finally got it in the car this last December and it is leaking like a siev.

I haven't had a chance to call the shop and am planning on it. Heck, maybe they'll stand behind their work even after all this time, but I was also thinking that replacing the gaskets ain't a big deal and may be the easiest solution here.

From what I can gather, they weinied me on an either an o-ring on the fill tube or a gasket where the kick-down enters the transmission.

I searched the web looking for an explode view without luck, thought I'd see if anyone here new of a place before I head out to the library.

Thanks......

gregg, I have the ATSG manual and a rebuild video for the 4L60 trans. Not sure about how much difference there is between the TH350 and the 4L60 but you're welcome to stop by and chick it out...

Is it leaking from the front, rear or center of the trans?Did you over fill the converter before installation?I did that last week and I can tell you that the dipstick tube is the lowest point on the trans.I just use RTV on the kickdown.RTV may not be a bad option on the dipstick tube also.I'm going to try it today as I didn't get a tube seal w/ this trans either. Chuck,,, not sure of the difference either. I may take you up on your offer. I have the pee wee in tow today, so I'm thinking a trip up to library to see what they may have. I'll let you know, ya' gonna be around all weekend?

Charly,,,,It's all wet right around the kickdown and filler tube area, guess that would be passengers front of the tranny. The converter ws filled correctly and basically it leaks ALL fluid over time. We are bracing for a week of rain and I had to add fluid just to drive it into the garage. RTV, huh? perhaps, but I would like to try to get this repaired correctly. Afterall, it is a "rebuilt" tranny, that's what I believe anyway, but I'm starting to question whether I got took.

Yeah, I should be here all weekend, at least until Sunday evening. I can't believe that the weather was nicer in DC yesterday than it was here. I hope to get some odds and ends parts polished up for my suspension so that I can get them plated this week...

Greg,Check your trans lines too.It doesn't take much of a leak when the fluid is under pressure.Low fluid will kill a 350 in short order.(Don't ask how I know that!) Charlie http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I will point out that a book on a 700r4 will be of no use with a t-350 tranny.

if you have sleeve style sealing on the filler tube or the kick down cable.... the sleeves MUST be installed into the case FIRST.

You will cut the sleeves if you push them onto the filler tube or the cable end,,, then push them into the tranny case.

dont forget the little plastic VENT TUBE on top of case -it could bep[lugged causing pressure to force fluid out......
that will even force it out the top of fill tube!

In the schematic it appears that the kick down has an o-ring. I have not been able to get my th350 to stop leaking around the kick down. Do you know if it should or should not have an o-ring? thanks, Joe Don B

Can anyone tell me if the kick down cable sleeve is supposed to have an o-ring on it? I can't get my tranny (recently rebuilt) on my 79 GMC Heavy Half to stop leaking around the kick down.

If the cable has an o ring groove on it, then it needs an o ring. If it does not have an o ring groove, then it uses a sleeve.

which seals the best? o ring or boot sleeve?

the sleeve type is the newer design, it works better than the older o ring type.

makes sense. can you swap an o ring type for a boot sleeve type as long as they are the same length? seems like you should

no, the housing diameter of the sleeve type is smaller, since it fits into the sleeve seal...the o ring type is as big as the hole, as only the o ring groove is smaller diameter.
