I've been lurking on here for a couple weeks, and decided it was time to register and get in the mix. My name is Jay. I am 26 and live near Ocala, FL.

My car interest started with VWs, probably after seeing pictures like the one posted of my Grandfather racing them in the 50s & 60s. I've had several Volkswagens, but have always had a thing for 50s Chevys.

Last June I went looking for a 54 Chevy 2 door, but came across a 68 Porsche 912 with a seized motor for the right price. Being familiar with the air cooled flat 4 engine I thought it would make a good project. I had it running in 2 weeks with not much more to do to it. So, I needed a project, and having spent all my money on the Porsche I didn't have much to choose from. I found a very rusty 54 210 with no floors and the transmission in the trunk.

It will take forever, but I'm going to try and do all the work myself, and maybe someday get this car back on the road. I'm learning everything as I go. I'm starting on the floors today. Anybody local want to help with a chop?

Hey, Man...rusty old 49-54 Chevys are the coolest cars on the planet! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Floorboards are SO over-rated...I actually like the plentiful "trash ports" and "peepholes" located randomly throughout my old Chubby Chebby!!

(Here's a tip for ya...the hot set-up for engines in these cars is the 2.8 Chevy V6...tiny little POWERHOUSES that you can hide under that hood without worry! ALL the really HIP Chebby owners are going that way...don't be fooled into messing with a moth-eaten old small block or anything!)

I found that heavy carpet will lift off the floor holes at freeway speeds over 65 mph

Welcome aboard, lots of info and great people.

Please don't listen to Hack, he is just here to help with his mental illness, we just humor him and make sure his helmet is on tightly. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Welcome Rusty210! Have fun with that Chevy! Could be really cool.! Like the shot of your Grandfather, kind of reminds me of Dean Jones! Wish my grandfather raced!

I personally don't think that swisscheese in the floors is that big a deal. That's what old liscence plates and road signs are for. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks for the warm welcome. The knowledge on this board will really help in getting my car on the road.

I've thought about selling the Porsche to fix the Chevy. I change my mind the next time I drive it. That car is a blast to drive on the back roads.

Everyone is down on Fat Hack and his 2.8 engines. Personally I feel that they have plenty of power to start a decent SBC. I just can't see why someone would use one when the regular small block starter does a decent job and its sooooo much smaller. hehe!!!!
