my buddy Boyd "Cotterpin" Singer brought me the quick change that'll be goin in the FnA. actually he dropped it off at the Ionia Hot Rod Shop. i talked to Denny yesterday and he told me to "get my rearend outa the way"!! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif so i did. boy is this thing HUGE. it's a magnesium Franklin Champ style QC and it is beautiful.

i need to convert it over to a more street friendly axle setup, like Ford style bearings and whathaveyou. but does anyone know where i can get gears for this monster??? there are a couple local sprint car guys i need to talk to but i thought i'd put the word out. plus i just wanted to show off how cool this thing is. check out the fins on the rear cover. too cool!! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

KB, Your rearend looks just like mine. ( now let the perverts have a ball). Seriously Do you remember the one that was in my shop when you were here? Mine has been converted to the helical cut gears so the noise level is at least somewhat civilized (you aren't going to believe the howl that thing is going to make at a steady 60-70 MPH. I've got to believe that will look perfect under the FnA.
As far as gears are concerned you can get them from any circle track supply place (Speedway Motors is an example) and there have got to be thousands of used change gears floating around among the oval track guys. I've got to get over to see you and check out your project.

If you just want a apir of quickchange gears for the back,
Speedway should have them.
Or Howe in Beaverton Mich.
Or Port City racing,
Or any local ovaltrack supplier.
Around $50

It probably has a spool, there are some big buck differentials available that will fit,but I've never heard of anyone converting one to an open diff or using an OEM limited slip.

You can find differentials:
Stock Car Products (http://www.stockcarproducts.com/rearend.htm)
Howe Racing (http://www.howeracing.com/DriveTrain/Index-RearEnds-SpoolDiffs.htm)

Winters seems to be the popular brand these days,I couldn't find a Franklin QC site.
The spur gears will interchange,so it might turn out that Winters bought(or copied)
Franklin's design and the differentials would interchange. But I don't know for sure.

thank you all. Frank, i do remmeber that rearend. that was the one i tried to sneak out the door http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif.

i'm not crazy about running a spool on the street so a limited slip would be better. but if the cost difference is too great i'll do it. helical cut gears are a good idea. the truck'l be plenty loud with the zoomys anyway.

Hey Mike, I don't know how strong those QC's are, but I've been runnin a spool in my 9" on the street for 3 years now with NO trouble whatsoever! And that's with 30x13.5 ET Streets on it! I'm sure that with whtever girly little tires you decide to run http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif a spool would be just fine!

A 39 to 53 F2 ring and pinion with differential can be used in that case with 31 spline 9" axles.

Stock Car Products, Speedway, and TCI should have gears for you.

I used to have a "Stock Car Products" QC and it looked big like "Franklins"! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

You're going to Love it...! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

i might go this route, though i'd rather have a limited slip than an open rear. i just never liked the chirpy tires when you turn a corner with a spool. and they are 29 1/4 x 10" Radir dragster slicks....

HMMM, it prolly will be pretty tough to hear much of anything over the zoomys.
