well fellas i lost my work space for my 54. i had a good thing going on at work. i was able to leave my car there while i work on it. i could stay till late hours running the compressor and nobody around to complain. only under one condition lock the shop up, set the alarm and make sure i come to work the next day.
one guy at my job started complain that it not right that i do that. what if i didn't set the alarm and the place gets robbed. altough i have been doing this for awhile and mangament was cool with it. once you get one guy rocking the boat it start to create waves. due to him i had to get my car towed out of there yesterday.
now i have to work on it at home. theres nothing wrong with that but i can't run the compressor after 8:00pm. i just wanted to choke that fucker and kick him in the nuts. i don't say anything when i see something going on. i'm the type of guy that leaves you alone as long as you leave me alone. now its war i'm gonna catch him doing something or just get his ass after work one day. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif

One of life's tough lessons...from my own personal experience, if you appease all those who are in a position to feel shortchanged because you are getting something that they aren't, then life gets a lot easier. For instance, I fix all my neighbors cars and lend them tools on occasion when they are working on their projects...it's not a big deal for me to do it but now they all owe me so they don't bitch about how long I run my compressor in the evening or about the 50 Merc sitting in the driveway for the last year under a cover.... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Maybe there's something that you could have done for this numbnuts BEFORE he started bitchin'...
I am on the same page with FlyinEye.
That guy will get whats coming to him.
You may not be there when it happens, but happen it will.
Just stay cool.

Look at the bright side. Nobody can say " we let you do this" or "you owe me". The place I used to work at did the same thing. They said bring your project over its cool!
Once it got there they were at a loss. "Its old and rusty" The place I worked at was a tunner shop. Never the less I don't work there anymore! The things that suck the most make us stronger!
Ya know, if you take little pebble and put it under the dust cap of a tire valve and screw it back on it'll let the tire go flat. THen when the putz takes the cap off the pebble just drops on the ground and he doesn't know why the tire went flat.
Then if there was a pebble under all four tires one day...
A dixie cup full of urine poured in the cowl vent get's in the heater this time of year and makes the car smell like piss forever more.
Don't get mad, get even!

sorry man , that guy need to mind his own bus. pay back is a bitch! get him !
As i'm getting older and learning life's little 'way's, i'm realising that my biggest bitch is people that don't mind there own business!
I fucking HATE it!
I'm gonna assume your car wasn't harrasing him, or picking on him, or insulting him...you get my drift i'm sure.
Yet, he just HAD to say something..open his mouth about something that didn't concern him..
Narrow minded people that have nothing in there own lives to keep busy with *must* find someplace to express there bullshit!!!
Remember this please....don't say yer gonna do anything..to anyone.
Just say your gonna let it go..
This way when you say " i didn't do anything" there's nobody there to disagree. dig?
I'm reminded of a saying my dad used to say every now and then..
"The devil always has his day....and i AM the devil"
What goes around...WILL come around.

Ok, I'm not saying I'm backing the guy that bitched, but look at it from his side, I'm assuming the place was an automotive shop? If so, I'm also going to assume that like most all shops, each mechaninic has to supply his own tools, say that Mr Work on my car @ my job FORGOT to set the alarm after a long day @ work and the other mechanics in the shop got thier shit ripped off? then what? then everyone is out. Like I said, I'm not agreeing or disagreeing, just being the devil's advocate here...

I think a destruction ritual (or 'curse') might be in order, if you're really that pissed off at the little bitch. He'll get his and won't have any clue who's responsible, eliminating any possible payback on his part. All that's really required is that you truly WANT him, without any reservations, to get what he deserves. And if you do it right, you'll be relieved of the burden of caring about the whole thing anymore. I did this to a prick who betrayed my trust and burned me, and his life is a living hell now.
Consult the works of Anton LaVey for more details.

Had the same thing happen to me, I worked in a paint shop, he got all mouthy and said-
“ if the customers got a look at that POS they never get their cars done here”
Had to get my car out of there.
I didn’t say a word to him just kept looking at him in the lunch room. After about a week of this he got real pissed and stood up and yelled “ what the Fuck u lookin at?” I kept staring at him.
The boss got us both in the office, and this guy starts with – this punk is giving me the shits thinks he’s tuff or sumthin special, the fuck wit is puntin me off my food!
The boss tells us that we have to work together so better get it worked out.
Mouthy pipes up and says “Fuck workin with HIM” he goes or I do! I say “I don’t have a problem work with him” Mouthy gets all shaky and starts ravin and proding me with his finger. The boss tells me to go back to work, mouthy got the sack.
Karma? Luck? The next painter was a good tradesman, taught me how to do a good job the first time and didn’t treat me as his slave. We have been good friends for over 25 years.

One prick was always bitchin about something someone did , someone said , someone was going to do or not doing thier job .... just bitching all the time.
well one of the guys started letting air out of the asshole's tire on his truck. the asshole had his tire checked , rechecked.... this went on for weeks. the leak would come and go LOL, really drove the asshole nuts
My current employment..... the management bought the tranny group( I build trannys) pizza as an "atta boy' for some things we got finished in record time.
The guys that build converters got their butts hurt because pizza was bought for 'only' us! they did nothing for the project we were on

When I worked at the Ford dealer, alot of us mechanics would work on our shit after hours. The service manager was usually there late, so we didn't have to worry about locking up or alarms.
However, a few incidents threatened that practice!
One mechanic had this clapped out old Firebird that caught on fire in his stall. A porter got flames out quickly with an extinguisher, but it was enough to get management upset...and they began cracking down on all personal car work being done in the building.
A short time later when a V8 S10 was started in gear and ran off of the alignment rack and into a wall...narrowly missing the service manager, things got REALLY ugly for a while!
The soloution that management came up with was to require that ALL cars...customer's or personal, had an RO (repair order or work order) written out for them. That covered the dealership in case of accident, fire, theft, etc. If you wanted to work on your car after hours, you had to have a service writer make out an RO for your vehicle, and it had to be under the wiper or on the dash in plain sight.
Maybe your place could have handled the situation in a similar fashion...writing up a work order to "repair various aspects of 54 Chevrolet" is all it would have to say. That way, you'd actually be working for the business owner while wrenching on your ride, and he'd be covered if anything happened.

your right its a body shop i work for. the thing about it hes on the other oppsite side of the build. the stall he has can be locked up with the rest of the shop in full work mode. the only one with a key to his area is managment and him.
what really pissed me off is when this guy went into buying salvaged cars and repairing them to sell. using the shops materials and parking the cars out front as a car lot. managment didn't say anything cause the rest of us techs didn't say anything. i didn't care what he was doing we all have to feed are familys some how. he went as far as having his own personal ford expedition parked in his stall for 8 months being worked on.
although it's up to managment they don't want to hear this guy yelling. so to shut him up they asked if could take it home. they where cool about it by saying the'll give me two weeks so i can make room at home. it was cool at the shop i had the suspension expert getting involed. he was just waiting for his turn at it. the painter kept giving me suggestions on paint schemes. everybody looking at the car transform into a really cool ride. that they where all gonna be apart of.
MAYBE THATS IT cause i cut him out of that circle. he ratted me out. nah i don't think so hes always be an asshole. the whole shop doesn't get along with him but hes been with the shop for 15 yrs.

thanks everybody for letting me blow off some steam. i'll think about everybodys suggestions when i see him on monday.
it just sucks each tech has there own stall. i have room for 5 cars that i'm working at any given time. he has 9 spaces and hes saying its taking up space from the rest of the shop. WHATEVER i'll just follow the advice my dad has always told me and i'll let you know that he will be turning 95 yrs old this month. so i believe he has some wisdom. " if you ever do something do it alone. that way you won't rat yourself out." http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
fat hack the only time they asked us to open an RO is when where painting something. they only charge us for the paint materials. thats the most costly in the body shop field

I have to smile when I read all the inputs that have been made to this post. There's a level of maturity that comes with time (and having to deal with assholes like this on a regular basis) so each person's viewpoint reflects how far down this road they have traveled. I worked in a body shop in high school and had a similar thing happen to me so I can relate to your situation.
Here's the bottom line: the power that others have over you is the power that you give to them. Take this in stride, be appreciative of the time that you had to use the shop's facilities, and in the end your complaining co-worker will get what's coming to him...because if it's not you he's bitching about it will be someone else. Pretty soon the shop owner is going to see that this guy is a bad apple and he's going to cut him out, then you will be the one looked upon with respect. Good luck...
I worked as dispatcher at a now defunct Glendale Chevy dealer and had a lube man who acted like he owned the place.
We'd get in a car with a slipping tranny among other service items and he'd come in the back door of the service office and grab three or four tickets at once, even out of other mechanics slots and stride out with them.
Then he'd service the tranny, charge out a filter and gasket and labor time and write "needs overhaul" on the ticket.
Well we KNEW THAT! but now there's an extra filter and gasket the department has to eat and the Tranny man who actually gets to do the job, and was also a "new guy" and lost all disagreements because of that status had to short-flag for the job because some of the time for the ovrhaul was eaten up by the service.
SO, I start hiding the tickets till the tranny guy can get to them, and the lube man finds out and goes to the front office and crys, and I get "laid off" and at the same time finally get told why he gets away with acting like he owns the place, he's married to the owner's sister!
As far as "what goes around comes around" goes, In my experience, those assholes get promoted to manager if you've got management that got there that way themselves...Like in Dilbert
I've never worked in a shop that didn't require a RO on every car in the shop. It just makes sense. It's too easy to have an accident to not have one, and it lets the mechanic off the hook from situations like this one. It also provides a place for you to charge out parts and materials so you don't ge accused of "stealing" them, even if the price is listed as N/C.
I had an open ticket on my '55 Olds for 5 months in one shop while I was slowly going through the mechanicals.

I've heard of a weld shop foreman build a T bucket in our shop and he would do all his welding in the weld booths..., then roll it into the paint booth and shoot it, and then roll it into a remote corner of the shop for the night.
One day he noticed his car was gone..., he looked everywhere in and around the shop and couldn't find it!!!!
And in a panic he called the police to report it "Stolen"! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif
When the police arrived, they were asking him questions to describe the vehicle and if it were registered and licensed!
He told them he was still building the car and that there wasn't any paperwork to support it as being a complete car.
The cops just told him that he needed a list of parts and that they can't report it as a stolen car..., but as stolen car parts! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
After the Police left..., a forklift driver arrived late to work from the Dentist office and was wondering what all of the commotion was about..., and somebody told him about the Stolen car and the police...! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
The guy got a strange look on his face and told the other guy that he was playing a joke on the foreman and placed his car on the top of a storage rack (25 feet high) with a fork lift!!! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif
Needless to say the forklift guy was fired..., the foreman couldn't work on his car in the shop..., and all other Government jobs (private projects) had to be taken out of the shop!!!!! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif
That place became very "empty" and not a very joyouse place to work after that happened! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif
How would you have handled this situation if you were;
The foreman...? The forklift driver...? The shop owner...? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif
Maybe it's the best thing for you to be out of that situation! But I also empathise with you..., because when I lived in CA the basturds would bitch if I parked an unlicensed car in the Garage!!! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
