Well the motor is back from the machinist and I'm taking the rest of the day off from work to put it in. I have some minor assembly yet to do on the motor and then after that, it's going in.
Anyone with nothing to do this afternoon or this evening is welcome to stop by and get greasy. Although, since most everything is new (or near) there will be minimal grease involved...
Grimlock has my phone number so you can PM or email him.

Oh man, I lose phone numbers and addressses within minutes sometimes. You might want to get me an e-mail or PM with that info...and I'll pass it along if anyone contacts me. If you'll be around at lunchtime I could swing by and cheer you on for a few minutes.

I got your number n stuff somewhere. If someone could just remind me of the name of your street I could find you.
Right now I'm repairing my furnace for the second time since the icestorm.
But I may be able to cut loose this evening. Someone PM me with the street name again, please. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Well thanks for all the cheering up.
I got it in but can't get it to fire, at least not right.
After setting it to TDC and dropping in the distributor, then wiring the plugs this is what I get.
1. When the dist. is in the neighborhood of right, nothing. It just cranks.
2. When I adjust the dist. +/- then all I get is backfires throught the carb.
I have done this routine too many times to think that I've got the distributor in wrong or the wiring off. I yanked the plugs and cleaned them, I loosened up the valves a little and still no go.
I'm pulling my hair out now.
Any suggestions?

Oh, I don't know if this is of any consequenece, but the tail ights mysteriously come on for short periods of time all by themselves. It's got all new wiring and I've never had this particular problem before I yanked the engine...

Raven,
Make sure you have a good ground from the engine to frame and battery, also truck bed to frame.
