DOES ANYBODY HAVE ANY PICS OF SOME CHOPPED 40S FORDS? I HAVE A PRETTY GOOD IDEA OF HOW I WANT TO DO IT BUT I WOULD LIKE TO SEE WHAT OTHERS HAVE DONE SO THAT I CAN PUT A TWIST ON IT. I WOULD ALSO LIKE SOME SUGGESTIONS ON WHAT COMBINATIONS OF PARTS I SHOULD USE TO GET THE ULTIMATE PERFORMANCE IN SPEED AND HANDELING YET KEEPING IT WITHIN THE ERA OF THE CAR?

he may not be, but i am...
PLEASE STOP SHOUTING!!! CAPITALS TOTALLY SUCK TO READ!!! IF YOU CAPITALISE EVERY SINGLE WORD NO-ONE WILL LISTEN TO A FUCKING THING YOU SAY!
i would now go on to answer your question for you, but unfortunately i'm not exactly an authority on the subject so you may have to wait for someone else to come along.
in other news, don't just come to our web-board and give people shit. around here, there's a custom of introducing yourself, letting us know a bit about who you are and what you're building, and preferably photos too...
and if you arc up at everyone that says something as inoffensive as JKustom just posted, you won't last for long here...
welcome to the HAMB.

Speed and "handeling" out of a 42 Ford? Are you slalom racing against ice cream trucks?
Buy a Mustang GT...and put a chrome grille in it. The difference will amaze you! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Lets see, 6 posts and already being a jackass, you are off to a real good start!
Post an intro, tell us where you are from, and turn your caps off, then start asking questions.

6 posts, 3 are actually tech advice... you seem to be pretty knowledgeable. The "caps lock" thing is internet etiquette everywhere, bud, so don't fault these guys for pointing it out. Just let em know who ya are, what ya got, and you'll be ok. Really.
Good Luck, and welcome.

sorry to everyone that was offended by my caps, my brother slazzen filled me in on the yelling thing. i am an artist not a computer genius. give me another chance before you hunt me down and pummel me to death. im not looking to make a performance car like a mustang gt, i just want to build the car the best i can the first time so that when i post the pics i can gain some of you guys respect, and not have to buy parts i dont need.

Aw, we wuz just jerkin' yer chain a little!! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
42 Fords share alot of commonality with the 46-48 models, which are quite popular with rodders and kustom guys alike! Several HAMBers are building these cars at any given time, so finding info, pictures and tech help here shouldn't be too hard!
(Although a Mustang GT 302 engine will move your 42 along nicely! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif)
Do a search or just read through several back pages on the message board or in the Tech-O-Matic and you should find info relative to your project!
(And yes...show us some pics as ya go! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif)

I thunk that was called a 5.0.
A small block Ford should push it along pretty good. If you're going with the period that the car came from then you're basic choices are flatheads. Lincoln or Caddy would be pretty cool, but just for the odd factor. I think Axle's Bro is selling a nailhead pretty cheap, if its still up for grabs that would get you started cheap and gain you lotsa points when it comes to the cool factor.
The chop depends on how extreme you want to go. If I wanted it real extreme, I'd shoot for the fastback look. A whole lot out of the back and only a little out of the front.
But the rod pictured in this post is as smooth as it gets, good lines and not an abortion (that's a compliment) http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

my intro, i am a 37 year old jack ass. i have been a customfabricator and painter of harleys and cars for twenty years, my bro finally talked me into buying my own about a month ago. he found me a complete 42 minus engine for $1800 with the intention of selling me his reworked flathead and 40 tranny reworked with a zephyr gear for $2000. i figured you guy all talk shit to each other so i would jump right in, at least i stired you guys up. my bro called me and explained that i have to earn my position before i get to be a smart ass.thats the story of my life, nobody likes a young guy that actually knows something so i let my work do the talking. this is the first time i have ever shared or chatted with anyone and it is pretty cool. hopefully in the future i wont piss anybody off. as soon as my bro brings his camera over i will post some pics of the 42. i would show you the 37 plymouth that i chopped and reworked but it is all billet and i dont know if you guys would be interested, let me know. any help on the 42 would be greatly appreciated.

i do everything to the extreme. the fastback idea sounds cool. i was thinking about a retractible hard top, similar to the new chevy reproduction truck or a mercedes slk type of mechanism. what do you think?

Well I see all you guys met my little brother Paul or the "freakshow". The 42 he is talking about is the one I scored him from red beard a while back. So he scored his ride right off this board .Now you got 2 of us knuckle heads to deal with. He has no clue about tradtional rods so go easy on him .But he has huge talent when it comes to body and paint work 20yrs in the trade. His Nickname in the shop at Neillo porshe in sacto is Picasso but he is known by the family as the "freekshow"

i scored him a N.O.S grill for it and most of the trim pieces he needs at turlock cause I am the best big brother in the world
I was going to give you words of encouragement on your 42.
But after trying to hang front sheet metal on my 47 all afternoon, I aint got any good words for old Fords right now.
I did get a couple of catalogs in the mail yesterday that says we can get lots of purdy parts for these old battleships.
