Well it looks like I'm getting a 331.
It doesn't have the extended bell housing.
I was told that it would take a 904 automatic from a 318.
Is this true?
How hard is it to find a four barrel intake for it?

Here's the deal. That's great engine. I have one and it's a beast. The 4bbl intake is your best bet I got one at Hot Heads Research (http://www.hothemiheads.com).

You can find most of the parts and adapter your looking for. Also, you can call them for info. They're good guys.

Another upgrade you might like to make is to an electronic ignition. I did the swap this weekend and it was easy. you have to change out the intermediat shaft on the distributor/oil pump gear and then you can drop and mopar small block distributor right in there.

You should have no problem with tranny adapter there are plenty to choose from. I would go with a 700r4 if I was going to use an automatic.

Good Luck.

www.classichemis.com (http://www.classichemis.com) is good too.

'55 Chryslers came with 4bbl intakes, so it should be really easy to find one. If it were me, I'd just get the new Hot Heads one though.

I forgot to mention that I have a four barrel intake if you want to buy it off me. I don't recommend it because it will only fit the the small four barrels from the '50's and I couldn't find an adapter.

If you want a dual points distributor with coil and extra stuff send me an email I have one of those and it's mint. I'm just mentioning this stuff. I'll be putting it on ebay if you don't want it.

Thanks for the info.
Do I still need a trans adapter if this doesn't have the extended bell housing?

Ravin you can ues a small block 904 or 727. The 904 weighs less, and they can be beefed. I got a young friend in Oregon that has a 10 second Challenger that is running a 904.
There's a guy in the ozarks (southern MO) that makes adapters for them. It'll take some doing but I can put in touch with him.

Is this the latest swap for your truck? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Funny, very funny Grim.
No, it's not the latest swap for the truck (although, I do admit to visualizing it).
I originally wanted a Hemi for the Paige project but came across the aluminum Buick. I don't know what I'll ever put the Hemi in. I'm just glad to have one since I've always wanted one...
Oh, and the original 'new' motor comes back from the machine shop this afternoon...

Hmm I know we had planned on using the 216 in the beer truck but if your gonna have an extra HEMI sitting around, we can't have that. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
Give me a yell if you need help with the 235.
