8BA front seal question

Does the new style 1 piece seal really work with the 8BA front crank spacer? I used a couple of these new seals on pre 8BA engines and it worked out good. My concern here is that the oil return groove has relativ sharp edges and would mess up the seals lip pretty fast. Grind smooth or use a sleeve or just put together and go? Any experiences?

I used a sleeve just to be sure when I put my merc together

Chucked mine in a lathe and sanded roughness off spiral, Didnt remove groove , just smoothed it up.
