What Is One Horsepower?

Can’t you just see Barney Navarro sitting down at a desk in a dark corner of his shop with an old Bic pen and a couple of loose leaf pieces of paper? I bet he didn’t even take time to wash his hands before he started writing. After an hour or so, he’d take the grease smudged article, stick it in an envelope and send it off to whatever magazine requested it. Barney Navarro was a damned genius.

This piece is one of my favorites. It ran in three different publications from 1951 to 1953, but I got it from Hop Up – January, 1952. Just what in the hell is one horsepower anyhow?
