Fear & Loathing DP90

Fear & Loathing DP90

I had a small gas stain on the cowl of my a-coupe (DP90 primer). Everything I tried to smother the stain with only seemed to make the problem worse. By the time I gave up and went inside to search the H.A.M.B., I was becoming pretty manic.

After searching, I found this post and thought the super fine (and white) Scotch-Brite pads just might do the trick for me. It took some calls, but I finally found some at a random auto paint supply store in North Austin. I picked ’em up at lunch and got started once I got home from work.

The process is pretty simple… I filled a Scotch-Brite Easy Eraser pad (get these at any grocery store… white on one side, blue on the other) with water and used it to keep the surface of the primer nice and wet. Then, I began to carefully drag the super fine Scotch-Brite pads across the paint surface in one direction. I applied very little pressure to the pad and worked it at a medium pace. Within just seconds, the stain had lifted and I cleaned everything up with some soap and water.

At this point, it became obvious that the treated surface had a little bit more of a sheen to it. To knock it down, I grabbed a fresh Scotch-Brite Easy Eraser pad and ran it across the surface while completely dry. Much to my surprise, it took the sheen out perfectly. As a final step, I sprayed the area down with some Griot’s Speed Shine and wiped it clean with a terry cloth rag.

The end result is as good as new… And I got the H.A.M.B. to thank for it…
