The Goldenrod
On November 12, 1965 Bob and Bill Summers brought the piston-powered, wheel-driven land speed record back to America with an average speed of 409.277 mph. They did it with the Goldenrod – a slippery streamliner powered by four naturally aspirated Chrysler Hemis. A naturally aspirated streamliner has yet to go faster. In those terms, the Summers brother’s record remains.
I reckon most of us know the Goldenrod story well. For all intents and purposes, it’s probably the most famous streamliner ever built. Story upon story has been told and many pictures have been posted on the H.A.M.B.
However, thanks to Doug Hayes (Mazooma1), you are about to watch a 15 minute documentary covering the story of the Goldenrod as it happened. It’s a video that hasn’t been published since the 1960’s (that we know of) and one that you can’t afford not to see. Go get a coffee, sit down, cuddle up, and prepare to be awed…
Special thanks to Mazooma1 for sharing this video and many others that you guys will see soon.
