The Day of the Drags – 2009

The Day of the Drags – 2009

It’s been a long “season” for me this year. I’ve gone to more events and done more “car activities” than any year prior and honestly, I was starting to feel a bit like I was getting burnt out – not with cars at all, but just events. As such, I wasn’t as excited about The Day of the Drags as I usually am but felt like it was a good excuse to get the a-coupe out and stretch its legs.

Silva and I hooked up early and cruised the little coupe up to Round Rock in order to meet Reggie, Norm, Merle, Bob, and others for breakfast at the Little Red Barn. After scarfing down some tacos, we hit the road and 100 or so miles later found ourselves at the Little River drag strip. We parked our cars, found a spot, and then parked our asses… all day.

And that’s what I love about The Day of the Drags. I guess I had somehow forgotten how relaxing a good ole drag race can be when you aren’t part of the working staff. It’s almost like watching the ocean. You sit there with a beer in hand, good company, and no real objectives what so ever and just watch wave after wave… race after race… Of course, it’s interesting to watch the match ups, guess et’s, rap with your buddies, etc… But, more than anything, it’s just damned relaxing.

I love The Day of the Drags.

Of course, a day of relaxation didn’t lead to me taking many photos. I decided early on to rely on others and left my camera in the trunk of the coupe for much of the day. To see what I saw, check out the posts here, here, and here.

Special thanks to the Kontinentals for one hell of a drag race.
