Gotgas made one hell of a find today…

In the late 1960’s, a group of dedicated chicano drag racers took matters into their own hands when they were denied a place to race their hot rods. The Grande Carretera Drag Races were organized and took place on a public highway south of Cuidad Juarez, Mexico. The cops? Nothing a few dollars couldn’t handle.

The logistics were simple – the local Mexican police arranged to close down the highway one run at a time. As trucks and roadtrippin’ bystanders approached, the police would shut down the racing and open the highway back up.

Legal street racing. In Mexico. How fucking cool is that?!?
