The Best Of 2008

The Best Of 2008

Every year, I like to bring in the new year by crunching some numbers and listing our top posts. It’s actually a pretty complicated formula that considers page views, number of comments, site growth, etc… Real dork stuff. But you don’t have to worry about any of that. Just enjoy the list – It’s the best of the best of 2008.

10. The X-Sonic. A crazy bubble top that featured many firsts.

9. The 1957 NHRA Nationals. One of my heroes, Norm Jones, shares his perspective of the 1957 NHRA Nats through an incredible video he shot as a spectator.

8. Past The Tube. It seems like every year a post makes the list that really surprises me. This year, it was a post that I almost didn’t publish as it felt too personal… or too preachy… or something… In any case, I’m glad I did.

7. The Hot Rod Dash. I love dashes… Don’t you?

6. Old Signs. A trip to Phoenix, AZ to watch my Sooners get beat by West Virginia turned into one of my favorite posts of the year. The user comments make the story… and continue to almost a year later.

5. AV8 Redux. Mike Bishop and his little blue roadster.

4. The Zephyr. The story of Gary Howard’s latest and greatest build for the guy that recently saved my life.

3. The Tom Cobbs Story (Part 1, 2, 3). The first blown flathead. The first competition built small block Chevy. The first drag race… This series on Tom Cobbs and his famously fast roadster has it all.

2. The Coachman Show. How often do you get to see color video from a high-profile mid-1950’s custom car show? Not very.

1. The Bob Roddick Series (Part 1, 2, 3, 4). This one was no surprise. A few undeveloped rolls of film found just a while back were developed, researched, and published. The result? Some of the only known color photos from the 1951 Bonneville Nationals taken by an honest-to-goodness car guy.

And there you have it… The most popular posts on The Jalopy Journal in 2008. Obviously, this list doesn’t take into account some of the incredible posts on the H.A.M.B. this year. Just off the top of my head, I can think of this one as well as this one. It’s been one hell of a year… But somehow, I think we are gonna top it in 2009.

Stay tuned fellas…
