Other stuff at the GNRS…

Ryan’s thoughts on the 2017 Grand National Roadster Show were spot on: The acceptance and appreciation of straightforward, traditional style Hot Rods on the main show floor was in full affect this year. The occasional prop-riddled display stands showcasing an airbrushed pimp rod of a few years ago were nowhere to be seen this time around. What I did find was a great selection of cars both in the main expo halls and of course the ‘Suede Palace’ as well. One AMBR contender Ryan didn’t mention was James Hetfield’s ‘Blackjack’, a very Forties-era ’32 Roadster that I thought nailed the early post war hot rod look quite well. The quality of paint and finish was amazing, and I thought all the details added up to a very nice car. Additionally, the number of historic cars both original and restored was noteworthy, including the Bill Kenz-built ‘Odd Rod’ dual Flathead truck, Horace Davi’s  ‘Shampoo’ Truck, Ed Roth’s ’56 Ford shop truck, and the Jack Calori Roadster. Put this show on your list for next year!
