The McNeil Deuce Coupe

The McNeil Deuce Coupe

Thumb back to the July 1954 issue of Rod & Custom magazine and you’ll find a nice little article on Bob McNeil’s 1932 Ford three window coupe. (You might even recognize it from the Thrifty’s Parking Lot photo famously colorized by Rikster.) Customized at Chuck Porter’s Body Shop, the McNeil Deuce featured all the classic early 50s custom details: 3.5″ chop, chrome window trim, filled cowl vent and grille shell, and lots of hood louvers. A full house ’50 Mercury engine and two-tone naugahyde interior finished off the package to make this a stand out hot rod. Yes, there were plenty of well-built ’32 Deuce coupes in this era, but Bob’s car had a little extra refinement by running full fenders with the ’41 Ford bumpers. Even the matching white running boards and top insert work well with the deep black lacquer paint and his wide whitewalls in this case. The only head-scratcher was why it wasn’t the cover car that month. By the way, where is this car now?
