2016 H.A.M.B. Alliance Tags

A few years ago, I was at the Grand National Roadster show and stumbled upon a car that I considered perfect. It was a ’29 roadster on deuce rails, flathead, quickchange, black paint, period gauges, etc… It was the kind of car that you could take black and white images of and without context, never know when exactly those pictures were taken. And then, as I continued to study the car, it hit me – there was one detail that dated the car. Riveted on the firewall was a 2006 H.A.M.B. Alliance tag.

Honestly, I don’t know that I’ve ever been so proud. It just meant a lot to me to know that there was a guy out there in the world that didn’t know me from anyone else, but who was still willing to ruin a perfectly executed illusion just to show off his membership in the Alliance. That little moment in time absolutely made that show for me… Hell, it made my year. I still think about it all the time.

I also thought about that car a lot when we decided to redesign the H.A.M.B. Alliance tag for the first time since the Alliance launched in 2006. The design process was incredibly stressful for me. I gave it my all, but had all kinds of anxiety about designing something I’d hate two or three years down the road. Eventually, I found myself on the phone with one of my best pals, Kevin Lee, burdening him with my internal chaos.

“Hey man, you mind if I take a crack at it?” He asked.

Two days later and Kevin came to me with the design. It was first drawn on paper with pen and pencil, not a computer. It was then screened to thick .025 brass. And now, in my opinion, it’s the perfect Alliance tag. They are now shipping.

Editor’s Note: Please note that renewals and new memberships made before January 1, 2016 will get the old 2015 design. New memberships and renewals made after January 1, 2016 will get the new design… Same as always. To put it more simply, if your last tag was a 2015 tag, you will get this new design. If your last tag was a 2014, you will get the older 2015 tag. I know, it’s always confusing this time of year.
