The Coachcraft ’40 Ford

The Coachcraft ’40 Ford

This car has always interested me… Although originally built for someone else in 1940, the little roadster is mostly known as the James Wong Howe car. Wong Howe was an two-time Academy Award winning cinematographer that is still known as one of the best his craft has ever seen. This success lead to many toys and this ’40 roadster is just one of them.

Leaving only the stock rear fenders, Coachcraft built the rest of the body from scratch. The front fenders are 14″ longer than stock units, the hood sits almost 10″ lower than stock, the rear deck has been completely re-styled, and a removable canvas top was added for all-weather driving. Even today, the little car looks racy – doesn’t it?
