Car Craft “Grab Bag? Part 4: Done with a Dash

Car Craft “Grab Bag Part 4: Done with a Dash

OK, here’s the last in the series, and thank you for indulging me on these Grab Bag posts! This final bit covers a detail for the traditional jalopy that often gets overlooked- The dash. You’ve got a number of options and ways to go for this one: Many guys start with an aluminum Stewart Warner panel insert with some nice vintage gauges, which is usually inset to the stock dash panel, like the image above. On the other hand, nothing is more exciting than peering into a stunning period hot rod and discovering a reworked dashboard, or even better, a dash transplant from another car that looks like it was born there. Try a complete dash panel from an Auburn, a ’40 Ford, or in my case, a 1930 Buick. If you do a really nice job on the installation, the average joe will assume it was born there!
