Customized by Simplicity

Customized by Simplicity

I was thumbing through my 1954 Custom Cars Annual (Trend Book 109), and came across a single page of joy: The Stan Lendzon Buick convertible. The description is very brief but covers it nicely by saying: “(It) has been customized by simplifying. Stock grille was modified by eliminating all but five of the heavy grille slats.” Honestly, much of the great design credit should go to Bob Kaiser from Clarkaiser Customs of Detroit. Motown Customizing of the 50s may bring the Alexander Brothers to mind, but Clarkaiser was another great shop that also built some very original customs like the 1955 “Goldenbird” T Bird, Larry Ernst’s 1952 Ford, and John Cassaubon’s Olds-powered 1950 Ford.

Now back to the Lendzon Buick: Whats not to love? Great low stance, perfect balance of minimum brightwork & just enough chrome, mild chop and body mods, and a very unique bumper treatment at both ends. Simplicity is always a good solution in customizing.
