The Jean Sheppard ’40 Ford

The Jean Sheppard ’40 Ford

Here’s a pretty obscure old custom. I found it in the 1958 issue of Custom Cars Magazine. The car was built by Jean Sheppard out of Seattle, Washington in 1952, but by the time it was featured it was owned by Dick Brooks. Here nor there I guess…

What I really appreciate about this car is the restraint and simplicity of it. A three-inch chop under a carson’esque top, a conservative shave, and a liberal frenching. DeSoto bumpers round it all out, but it’s the stance that really brings it home. From the profile shot the car looks to sit level, but from the front 3/4 you notice a slight forward rake. I love that on this car.

The text mentions that Dick had the car painted “Royal Blue.” I’m not sure I’m feeling that at all, but all we’ve got is black and white images – and everything looks good in greyscale!

Enjoy:
