The Goofy Shit On DiBiasse’s ’34

The Goofy Shit On DiBiasse’s ’34

A quickie out of New Jersey today… Bob DiBiasse built this beast in 1960 and the Yankees at Rodding & Restyling saw it fit for a feature in January of ’61.  According to the copy in that feature, Bob’s goal was to have the lowest street coupe in all of Jersey. He made it happen with a 9″ channel, a 5″ chop, and a deeply dropped axle.

Obviously, there is some goofy shit going on here… The front and rear bumpers made from pieces of ’51 Chevrolet bumpers could have surely been edited and you could also argue that the rear step in the frame rails is a little too aggressive. Oh, and those headlights are wrong. And then there’s…

You know what annoys me at times? When I find myself picking apart a historical build like this one.

Seriously. This car was built by a kid… He probably sketched this thing in the back of his algebra book while day dreaming in class. He had probably dreamed of each detail time and time again. And he had probably saved every penny he had and used all the available time he could muster just to see it all come to a reality.

All that… And here I am, 55 years later, calling his dreams “goofy shit.” Sometimes, that just feels really disrespectful to me. Low. Gross. Horse shit.

And when you get right down to it, you know what sets Bob’s car apart from every other ’34 5w built from 1960 until now? The goofy shit.
