The HAMBIGRAM in BETA

I use Facebook mainly as a way to keep my family and close friends abreast of the latest goings on with my kids and home life. That being said, the more I use it the more I want to dump my account and run for a cabin in the hills of some type. I mean, have you ever read the terms and conditions that you agree to by having a Facebook account? Doing so is enough to make George Orwell shit his pants in fear.

I also have a couple of different Twitter accounts. One is pretty much dormant and the other is used simply to update folks when a post is created here at The Jalopy Journal. I guess I’m just not the guy that Twitter was made for. I don’t have the urge to let the world know that I’m doing laundry or stuck in traffic or in some other innocuous circumstance. And, at the end of the day, I would hope my world isn’t all that interested anyhow…

That leaves me with Instagram. I love Instagram. Of course, it’s owned by the evil empire that is Facebook, but at least the terms and conditions aren’t as threatening… YET. Plus, the “photo only” format filters the bullshit that often streams from Facebook and Twitter. You don’t have to read about some random’s political views or another’s religious sermon. Instead, you just get photos… Photos of all kinds of shit depending on who you follow. I totally dig that.

In fact, I dig it so much that I’ve been thinking of a way to integrate Instagram into our community a little more closely. And I have an idea of sorts, but it isn’t polished or ready for prime time yet. So, in the meantime I figured I would create our own Instagram stream just to see how much interest is out there for such a feature more tightly integrated into the HAMB.

You can see the stream here. And you can add your Instagram photos to the stream simply by tagging your photos with #hamb.

Obviously, this isn’t perfect. You’ll see some unrelated photos in the stream from time to time, but I’ve been watching it for the past week and it’s really been pretty cool. If there’s enough interest, I’ll spend a few hundred hours and make it really damned cool. And if there’s not, that’s fine too…
