The ‘Barn Find’ is not dead, Pt. II

The ‘Barn Find’ is not dead, Pt. II

Back in October I wrote a short post about the joy of unearthing crusty old cars that have been hibernating for years. I try not to get too excited till things actually happen, and money changes hands. I’ve lost plenty of amazing cars in the second thoughts of an owners mind… Happens all the time. Maybe that’s why I played this particular find extra low-key and kept my trap relatively shut. There was this feeling that the deal just wouldn’t happen, and that it would only lead to frustration and no score. After months of missed connections I got a call yesterday asking if I would come get all the cars (yes, three of them, and all pretty cool vehicles) out of their resting place for the past 45 years. I’m going down on Sunday to lay eyes on these mummies for the first time, and I’m fully expecting the worst since the pictures I received were taken almost a decade ago. Every old car buy has to be factored with the cost transport (I don’t have my own truck & trailer, and they are hundreds of miles away), which gets more expensive and time consuming when a car doesn’t run, let a lone roll freely or stop on it’s own. Then I’ve got to factor in getting each one tucked away somewhere, finding the precious time to work on them, and sinking money into each car to get it going again. Do I think it ‘s all worth it? Its not a no-brainer like finding a Bugatti or a Miller race car, but my gut tells me yes. I’ll know more after this weekend’s trip to the pyramids and back. Stay tuned for more details.
