The Devil Is In The Details

The Devil Is In The Details

1934 Ford Coupe

Lets get it out there from the start – Glass cars aren’t my bag. One of the great assets of traditional hot rods is their tangible sense of history and soul. To me, this personality simply can’t be duplicated. It’s born more than it’s made and I’ve never felt that any glass car was capable of living up to that. You know what they say about opinions…

Still, I am also an absolute sucker for smart design and creative thinking. It’s with those terms in mind that I bring you the Simmons ’34 Ford coupe. I’ve been watching Chris (an accomplished traditional hot rodder and owner of one very bitchin and blown ’39 coupe) build this car for around 4 years now and the finished product is stock full of brilliant thinking.

The car was built on a real ’34 chassis with loads of history that Chris found somewhere on the left coast. It came complete with the stout early Olds motor and the hard shiftin’ B&M Hydro. Chris essentially took this package and did everything his pocket book would allow to make it his own. Unfortunately, the budget didn’t allow for a steel body but that didn’t stop Chris from throwing in some very creative details. I absolutely love the grille insert inspired by a Weesner print and how about the early styled roll bar and punched and polish deck lid? Rad.
