Edelbrock parts catalog for 1953

Let’s head back in time seven long years from my last posting of the ’59/’60 Edelbrock parts catalog, shall we? Glancing through the Cold War cover pages of 1953 you’ll notice something very significant: Nearly ALL Flathead speed equipment. Edelbrock wasn’t even making parts for OHV motors in the early 50s, except for one page with a Chevrolet straight six dual manifold. The mighty Ford flattie (and V8-60) still ruled the dry lakes and dirt tracks, and the term “Y” block hadn’t even been invented yet. Also noticed a serious lack of “dress up” bits for sale- If it didn’t make the hot rod go faster, Vic didn’t bother to sell it. Looks like the biggest news that year was adapting a 1952 Olds/ Buick Quadra-Jet 4 bbl to your 59AB or 8BA motor. My other favorite page offers Lincoln 337 Flatheads “for your motoring pleasure”. The 49- 51 Lincoln motor was a lame duck in racing right out of the gate in 1949 (mainly due to it’s heavy weight), but Edelbrock, Edmunds and others had already invested in speed parts for this fine mill. I’m guessing these are leftover heads they were still selling off four years later.
