Wait Till Next Year…

2006 Lone Star Round Up

The 2006 Lone Star Round Up is done and gone. We came in full of high expectations and just like the Kontinentals do every year, they were blown out of the water. Another year, another incredible time with great friends and family.

The People
The absolute best thing about the Round Up is the people. Every year I get to hang out with folks of like mind and passion. The Tardels, the Mcphails, the Francos, Reggie, Flattop, the Ketches, Ito, Rocky, D.W. (Fight the man!), all of the Kontinentals, the Beatniks, the fellas at Flyrite, Clark & SoWhat, VooDoo, Chad (loved the ’36!), Plowboy, Little Bobby Bleed, Evel, Henry Astor, BobK, Denise, Earl, etc… You literally can’t walk away from a good conversation and not end up in another one within a few minutes. And I met soooo many HAMBers that I hadn’t had the opportunity to meet in the past. The people make the Round Up.

The Cars
Best show in the country. Period. It was total sensory overload all weekend. When it came time to make the H.A.M.B. pick, I decided to team up with Keith Tardel and just pick our favorite car after one walk through the park. We ended up picking a ’32 5w owned by Gordon Chisenhall (pictured above). I don’t know Gordon and have seen his car many times before the show, but something about it just stopped me in my tracks this weekend. It’s a Texas style hot rod… and it’s perfect.

It’s impossible to give a “best of” award though and that is not what this show is about. This show is about the portfolio of cars in attendance and the general atmosphere this group creates. Incredible…

The Credits
The Kontinentals – They make it all happen and I love every last one of them for it! They also treat us like royalty and though we don’t deserve it, we appreciate it more than they will ever know.

The Continental Club – Man, does Steve have a knack for finding good people or what? So many people to deal with, but they all keep their cool and they all have fun. It really is a Hot Rod Mecca of sorts…

High School Caesar – We caught their show on Friday night and it had to be the defining moment of my weekend. These guys are incredible and I’m now their #1 groupie…

Flyrite Choppers – Another great open house with good folks. It’s a show within a show.

Every HAMBer in attendance – You guys make me legit… even when I don’t deserve to be… You guys are punk rock.
