Chevy Six Dragster

Chevy Six Dragster

I was thumbing through “The Complete Book of Hot Rodding”, a Petersen book from 1959 which covered everything from engine functions to tire tech. In the chapter titled “Building Your Own Hot Rod”, I came across this super clean rear-engined drag car. I was taken in by how well it was designed and built, and the unusual choice of a Chevrolet straight Six for power- Mounted in the rear, no less. The book doesn’t tell who the owner is or any specs on the car, but the details speak for themselves: The graceful bodywork featuring a very small frontal area, incredibly low slung and fully enclosed chassis, and the upswept zoomie pipes. Dig the lightning holes on the front wheels and shock arms, or how engine gauges and pressure pump are mounted on the outside of the car where crew members can “prep” it for the run down the track. I wish this baby would show up at the HAMB Drags someday…
